Of the 481 accounts I follow on Twitter, aproximately:
- 200 are chefs
- 150are restaurants
- 81 are food writers
- 50 are food fanatics
- and a fair few MasterChef contestants are thrown in there too.
I am bombarded with tweets about new places to eat and new things to try. From the short-lived ‘Cronut’ hype of 2013 to the recent gravy-dipped burger trend that I keep bloody hearing about, its safe to say nobody’s stuck for choice when deciding what’s for dins.
Take the beloved beefburger:
Cool person 1: ‘Have you been to (restaurant title including one or more of the following words: dirty, bun, burger, cow, liquor, meat, patty). It’s the best burger in London!’
Cool person 2: ‘I beg to differ.. you’ve gotta try (another restaurant title including one or more of the following words: dirty, bun, burger, cow, liquor, meat, patty).
Cool person 3: ‘What about (yet another restaurant title including one or more of the following words: dirty, bun, burger, cow, liquor, meat, patty)? It’s the bomb!’
Well, which is it then people?!
Are these new places ‘WE’VE GOT TO TRY’ actually that special? Are new food trends really that great? And if so, where are the best places to get them? After my recent post where I compared two popular ‘posh burger’ joints (Five Guys vs Byron), it seems everybody’s got an opinions about whether certain food and restaurant trends are worth their hype.
So to help everyone who loves food make the right decisions when it comes to grabbing your next bite, i’m starting THE FOOD FIGHT – every other week, i’m going to take two popular restaurants that do the same signature dishes/ types of food and battle them out against each other to work out which wins The Food Fight.
For example:
- The Pizza Food Fight:
- The Fried Chicken Food Fight:
- The Sushi Food Fight:
- The Lobster Food Fight
- and so on…
So, what do you think? Who would you like to see fight? Is there anywhere that you just don’t get, or maybe some hidden gem somewhere that you think deserves more attention?
I want to hear from you!
I look forward to your thoughts!

Steak! Where is the best place for steak?! Also, Mexican. Love Wahaca but is there a better, less-chainy alternative?! Thanks Beth! x x x

Loooooove this idea! Definitely don’t get the London surge in fried chicken! If you’re looking for suggestions: You could probably take on ramen, the gourmet grocery-slash-coffee shop, and, a cause close to my Montreal-native’s heart… The poutine. Can’t wait to hear the verdicts!
